Things to Do Around Pismo Beach when it Rains

A rainy day is no fun for anyone. There is always so much to do outside that when it rains, it puts such a damper on any plans! How are you going to be able to enjoy the beach when it’s raining out? You won’t be able to take a hike along the trails or even bask in the sun. The clouds and the rain can ruin a perfectly good day outside! But Pismo Beach has so much more to offer than just the beach and the hiking trails.

There are a ton of unique activities and things to do in Pismo Beach. Whether you’re looking to spend a day out with the kids or by yourself, you need a guide to the Pismo Beach area!

When the Pismo Beach weather isn’t cooperating the way it should, here are the top places to go on a rainy day!

Visit The Central Coast Aquarium

The Central Coast Aquarium is the perfect place for families to learn about the local sea life and ocean stewardship. The aquarium is intended to help foster the love of the sea and the community. The Central Coast Aquarium is perfect for providing fun opportunities centered around education and action.

The aquarium is based out of Avila Beach and offers exciting hands-on experiences. Here, they teach how ecosystems have an impact on our lives. The organization’s mission is to educate and inspire everyone through outreach and offerings. At the Central Coast Aquarium, they want to help teach people that preserving our waters is essential for the Earth’s health. The hands-on exhibits, outdoor excursions, and laboratory lessons aim to impact everyone, both children and adults. If they can positively impact the perspective of their visitors, then they have succeeded in their mission!

Kids who come and explore the museum and aquarium can take part in the opportunity to take the ocean home with them! The Stewardship Traveler Program is the perfect experience for the ones who want to grow their love of the ocean. This program helps those participating make a difference when they go out on vacation. Many activities and programs are offered all up and down Highway 1.

Explore Local Art at The Seaside Gallery

The local art in Pismo Beach is a sight to behold. At the Seaside Gallery, you can see dozens of local artists’ works on display. You will find many different art mediums on display right in the heart of Pismo Beach. There are few art galleries in the area, so if you want to see some art, this is the place to go. Here, you will find Impressionistic, Abstract, Fauvist, Expressionist, and realistic pieces that showcase the diversity of art.

Founded by Tom and Sherie Burgher, The Seaside Gallery has become a place that fosters the love of art and technique. When you tour the gallery, you will learn from either Tom or Sherie about each artist whose work is on display. Their vast knowledge about each piece will help you understand the story behind the art and its artist. There are paintings and sculptures about Pismo Beach and Shell Beach. You can find sculptures of cowboys and horses as well as a storage door from artwork from children! Sherie understood how much people loved to see children’s artwork, so she provided an entire section to show off the creative young minds.

Tom and Sherie also want to help foster and grow the public art project with the Seaside Gallery. They understand how important art is for culture, so they sponsor sculpture and painting shows throughout the town to unite the community and appreciate local artists.
