About The Clam Festival
The Clam Festival has been a favorite Pismo Beach event for over 75 years. This year’s festival is expected to be the biggest yet! You can expect parades of amazing mermaid floats, surfing competitions, local musicians playing live at the venues, and so much more. The festival got its start to honor the many clam chowder cafes all up and down the stretch. Now, you can get to be a part of the festival to celebrate this beloved dish.
What To Expect
Contests
If you’re looking for fun contests to witness or participate in, the Clam Festival has several to choose from. There is a surfing contest on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. From 12 noon to 1 p.m., there is a “Best Local Clam Chowder” contest where, for $20 per entry, you can sample all the best clam chowder made locally. On Sunday, there is the Clam Dig Contest where participants can dig for the biggest clam on Pismo Beach! This contest takes place from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
Parade
There is always a bustling parade when you come to the Clam Festival! The parade kicks off the massive festival with mermaids on decorative floats as well as dancers in the streets. You can watch it all free of charge as the parade rolls down Price Street.
Music & Vendors
There are also plenty of music and vendors that line the festival. Many local bands like the Molly Ringwald Project, Jineanne Corderre, or Damon Castillo will play live music as they have in the past. There are also a lot of food trucks and vendors selling all the local food they prepared. You will find a fun zone that is perfect for the kids as well as a beer and wine garden for the adults.

The Pismo Beach Clam Festival takes place right on Pismo Beach itself in Pismo Beach, California. The Clam Festival starts on October 15th and runs until the next day on October 16th. The festival starts each day at around 8 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m.
